Joel B. Epstein, DMD, MSD, FRCD(C)
Dr. Epstein graduated from Dentistry in 1976 from the University of Saskatchewan in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, Canada. He received a certificate in Oral Medicine and Masters' of Science Degree in Dentistry from the University of Washington in Seattle, Washington, USA, in 1979. He is a Diplomat of the American Board of Oral Medicine and is currently an examiner of the Board. Dr. Epstein is a Fellow of the Royal College of Dentists of Canada in the recognized specialty of Oral Medicine/Pathology (Oral Medicine). Prior to returning to University of Washington, he was on the Medical/Dental staff of the British Columbia Cancer Agency; Head, Department of Dentistry, Vancouver Hospital and Health Sciences Centre; Vancouver, British Columbia. He was Head, Division of Hospital Dentistry and, Professor in the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia.
Dr. Epstein is currently a Professor in the Department of Oral Medicine at the University of Washington in Seattle, and is Director of the Oral Medicine Graduate Program and the DECOD program. He maintains an active research appointment at the British Columbia Cancer Agency and Vancouver Hospital in Vancouver Canada. He conducts a referral practice in oral medicine. Dr. EpsteinÇƒÙs research interests include all aspects of Oral Medicine, and have focused in oncology, with emphasis in the oral management of complications of the primary disease, or its medical management, and in early diagnosis and management of oral premalignant lesions. He has more than 300 contributions to the literature in the form of papers, abstracts, and text book chapters.
