First of a kind meeting slated
A "first of a kind" meeting -- The Future of Dentistry: Integrating Medicine into the Practice of Dentistry -- will be held in Phoenix from April 14-16, 2005. The American Academy of Orofacial Pain and the American Academy of Oral Medicine have co-sponsored this first joint national congress in Phoenix in April, 2005. This exciting meeting will focus on practical evidenced based knowledge presented by world class speakers on diagnosis and management of common medical-dental orofacial disorders.
Orofacial disorders including oral cancer, temporomandibular disorders, oral lesions, salivary gland disorders, orofacial pain disorders, oral neurosensory disturbances, orofacial dystonias and dyskinesias, bruxism, burning mouth, dental sleep disorders, malodor, dental phobias, and others are very common in all dental practices with a collective prevalence of over 40 percent of the population. Management of these disorders differ from traditional dental practice because the dentist spends significant clinic time providing medically based evaluation and treatment for these patients. Services are usually reimbursed by time for consultation and procedures through the patients medical insurance plans similar to physicians.
The purpose of this conference is to provide a comprehensive course for dentists on how to provide diagnosis and management of orofacial disorders in both general and specialty practices of dentistry. The conference includes the evidenced based evaluation, diagnosis and management of orofacial disorders as well strategies on how to successfully integrate into routine dental practice. The conference will introduce new technological advances in the field such as genetic transfer techniques, new pharmaceuticals, advances in craniofacial imaging, and intelligent digital records for orofacial disorders. Pre-conference workshops on practice management concepts and two special courses; one for auxiliary staff and one for physical therapists will also be offered. All attendees will be provided an illustrated clinical guide and associated software as part of attendance.
The meeting will be held at the Wigwam resort and conference center in Phoenix, Arizona (wigwamresort.com).
