Can Kenalog in Orabase cause Burning Mouth Syndrome?

Dear Doctor:
Recently I have been on a course of medicine for Geographic Tongue.I have stopped using Kenalog in Orabase for two days now, but only today have I had symptoms of Burning Mouth Syndrome. Is it possible for this to start after medication is finshed as opposed to during? Could this be temporary until the medicine works its way out of my system? I would hate to think I made myself worse than the Geographic Tongue that I started with. What can I do in the meantime?
Thanks
Eric

Answer
Hi Eric,
Yes. Local irritation and sensitization with Kenalog in Orabase can occur. The medication should be stopped.
This effect occurs while the medication is being used and subsides after it is stopped. It is only temporary. To alleviate the burning your doctor could prescribe Tantum oral rinse or Lidicaine viscous. Talk to your doctor.
Thank you for using Allexperts
Sincerely,
Eric Brandt, B.Sc. Pharm
