Burning Mouth Syndrome in layman language is known as burning tongue as well. In scientific terms, it is also called as glossodynia, oral galvanism, glossopyrosis, and stomatopyrosis. The case of burning tongue is very common among middle aged people. Most of the times, burning tongue is not a serious illness, which stays only for few days. However, during that short span of period, it can bring you acute pain and difficulties in eating.

Why it is caused?
The main cause of Burning Mouth Syndrome is yeast infection. Apart from this mouth infection, it can be caused due to hormonal imbalance, nerve damage, endocrine disorder, deficiency of vitamin B12 and many more reasons.

What are the symptoms?
Though the symptoms may be different for persons to persons, let’s discuss about some common symptoms, which gives you the hint of getting infected. Once your mouth is infected, you may feel your mouth is getting dry or feel thirsty again and again. Apart from that, you might feel the burning sensation in your lips, gums, tongue and palate. Sometimes, you might feel numbness on your tongue as well.

What are the remedies?
If you want to get relief temporarily from burning mouth syndrome then start chewing a sugar free gum or you can suck an ice cube, but not ice cream.

For complete cure, you should consult a doctor, who usually advises to take some vitamin E and B tablets. Apart from that, during that period, try to avoid eating spicy and hot foods, which can aggravate your condition.

To avoid this painful syndrome in future, you should be careful about what you are eating. Yes, try to include food stuff in your daily meal, which are rich in vitamin E and B. In case, the burning sensation and pain remains after all your effort then it is necessary to consult a doctor, as it could be an indication towards a more serious disease.
