I have suffered from Burning Mouth Syndrom for over 7 years. I tried klonopin for 6 years until it became ineffective in my pain management (2 mg per day). My 47th doctor..a neurologist..suggested I try nortryptiline. I started it one week ago today. First 5 days were very difficult, VERY dry mouth, dizziness, fatigue etc. Today, for the first time in 7 years, I feel different. My mouth still has burning and bad taste, but nowhere near as bad as it has been for so many years. I taste food differently. I pray that this will stay at least at this level..which, while not ideal, is very livable after the hell I have been through for 7 years. Please talk to your doctor about this new treatment for BMS. I hope and pray it will help you and me for many years to come. Thank you for doing such a great job on this website.

I just read the testimonial of Susan Porter and I can relate to her whole story. I too have had the condition for going on 7 years this coming Nov. 2012. I recently saw my 17th doctor, an allergist and he prescribed Nortriptiline 10mg. early evening, zantac morning and evening and Zertc at noon and the first two days I did have relief. First time my swollen tongue looked normal in yeas. However I have had a relapse and not sure why. My new doctor suggested that salt is an irritant so will cut way back on that. Susan I am happy for your relief and my wishes are that I and others will benefit by your story. I have had plenty of stress in my life and that could be the problem as well and the Nortriptiline may help me with that as well as the Zantac. Thank you for your story.
