The Burning Mouth Syndrome Library was created to provide sufferers of Burning Mouth Syndrome (BMS) and the healthcare professionals that treat them with information and tools that can help in the search for a cure.  This information was fragmented and disorganized when my own mother, Pat Friedlander, needed it most during her struggle with BMS.  The BMS Library is dedicated to the memory of Pat Friedlander. 

A few years ago Pat battled fiercely against Burning Mouth Syndrome and let me tell you, what a battle it was.  She did not go quietly into that goodnight, she raged against the dying of the light but in the end it was just too much to bear.  The information and tools we had at our disposal were just not enough to put out the fire. 

During the last four months of her life I took off from work to spend more time with her and I am so glad I did.  She was truly a force of nature.  A student of life, she possessed a powerful mind, a passion for education, a great love of her children, a love of the theatre and a great physical beauty (she modeled on the March 1941 cover of Life Magazine) which will stand the test of time.

I think if you asked her what her greatest accomplishment was during her life her reply would have been ”my children.”  My brothers and sister and I all loved her dearly and always will.

My family, my friends and I are dedicated to making sure others with this debilitating condition do not face the same battle alone, without the tools and support they need.

I would also like to share this dedication with my mother’s lifelong friend and travel companion, Ruth Lowe, whose support during the final years of my mothers’ life was so wonderful.  Ruth left us shortly after my mom, I’m sure they are playing bridge together right now.
